This certificate is designed for MSN students in programs other than Healthcare Leadership and Management who wish to augment their education with coursework in nursing administration.  It is also offered as a post-master's option for MSN prepared nurses whose master's degree were in fields other than nursing administration.  The focus is on the development and enhancement of leadership and management skills related to healthcare finance, managing personnel, and identifying critical benchmarks and measuring outcomes.

Admission Criteria
  • Valid, unencumbered Registered Nurse license
  • Undergraduate BSN degree from an accredited college or university in the United States or equivalent education at a foreign institution
  • Admission to the UTEP School of Nursing graduate program or completion of an MSN from an accredited college or university in the United States or equivalent education at a foreign institution.  Completed graduate level course work in Nursing Theories (NURS 5310 or equivalent) and Nursing Research Appraisal and Application (NURS 5370 or equivalent) with a grade of B or better.

All three of the certificate courses must be completed with a grade of B or better for the certificate to be conferred.  Students are to apply to the Graduate School for the certificate during their last semester of the MSN program or, in the case of a post-master's student, during the last course of the certificate program.
