The University of Texas at El Paso, pending approval from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), will offer a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree starting Fall 2017. The UTEP PharmD will offer a course of study in the Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Sciences designed to provide the community with pharmacists who are scientifically trained and clinically competent to deliver a full spectrum of pharmaceutical services in broad areas of pharmacy practice.

The UTEP PharmD degree is designed to prepare students whose abilities and career aspirations suggest significant potential for innovative leadership in pharmacy practice and patient care. The PharmD degree will prepare students to practice pharmacy in contemporary settings, such as community or hospital pharmacy, long-term care facilities, or in the pharmaceutical industry. This objective is met via an integrated curriculum that focuses on pharmaceutical sciences (e.g. medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharma-kinetics, pharmacology, toxicology) patient care, pharmacy practice, pharmacy innovation, and pharmacy administration, as well as technical Spanish, social sciences, and an extensive experiential education program to prepare pharmacists to meet the health needs and challenges of a 21st century population.

UTEP undergraduate students interested on applying to the UTEP PharmD program can fulfill they pre-pharmacy prerequisite requirements at UTEP and do not have to have obtained a bachelor’s degree to apply.
