M.S. in Kinesiology
The Master of Science degree with a major in Kinesiology is directed toward students who wish to:
- Increase their knowledge and competency in the various exercise science areas of Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Motor Control and Human Performance;
- Complete a master's degree in preparation for continuing their education in a doctoral program;
- Prepare for higher-level jobs in the many professions that deal with human movement, physiology, and physical activity.
Admission Requirements
For full admission into the master’s program in Kinesiology, students must present:
- An undergraduate degree in Kinesiology or a related field from an accredited institution with an overall GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Written statement of purpose for pursuing graduate degree
- Applicants from countries where English is not the first language are required to demonstrate English proficiency. Please consult the graduate school website for required scores.
- Written statement of purpose for pursuing graduate degree
For conditional admission into the master’s program in Kinesiology, students must present:
- An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution with an overall GPA of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
- At least 12 hours of undergraduate Kinesiology core courses approved by the program graduate advisor.
- Written statement of purpose for pursuing graduate degree.
- Applicants from countries where English is not the first language are required to demonstrate English proficiency. Please consult the graduate school website for required scores.
Grade Requirements
The following applies to fully admitted students: Any grade of D or F will result in a referral to the full Kinesiology Graduate Faculty for review. Barring extenuating circumstances, this will result in a recommendation to the Graduate School for dismissal from the Kinesiology Graduate Program. A grade of C is not considered acceptable graduate-level work. One grade of C is permitted as long as the overall GPA does not fall below 3.0. A second C will result in a referral to the full Kinesiology Graduate Faculty for review. Barring extenuating circumstances, this will result in a recommendation to the Graduate School for dismissal from the Kinesiology Graduate Program.
The following applies to conditionally admitted students: Students admitted to the program on a conditional basis will have a probationary status in their first semester. During this time, any grade of F, D or C will result in a referral to the full Kinesiology Graduate Faculty for review. Barring extenuating circumstances, this will result in a recommendation to the Graduate School for dismissal from the Kinesiology Graduate Program. Following the successful completion of the probationary semester at a GPA of 3.0 or greater, students will be moved to full admission status. Please see above section related to grade requirements of full admission students.
