M.A. in Education Online

The Teacher Education Department offers four fully online degree plans under the MA in Education. Each degree plan is 30 credit hours (10 courses). Students may concentrate their online graduate studies in the following areas: Artificial Intelligence in Education; Diversity, Equity & Social Justice in Education; Linguistic Diversity and Educational Equity; or STEM Education.
Admission Requirements
- A satisfactory undergraduate grade point average (GPA) 3.0.
- A current resume.
- A written statement by the applicant describing personal and professional goals as related to the M.A. in Education under the chosen concentration.
- Applicants from countries where English is not the first language are required to demonstrate English proficiency. Please consult the Graduate School website for required scores.
- The admission criteria will be reviewed by the Teacher Education Department holistically to assess the potential of the applicant. The successful applicant would typically have an undergraduate upper division GPA of 3.0 or higher that demonstrates focus on academics, a current resume that demonstrates basic knowledge/experience in education or a related field, and a written statement that demonstrates maturity and commitment to education in the chosen concentration area of study.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate with an M.A. in Education Online in any of the four online concentration areas, the following requirements must be met:
- successful completion of 30 hours of required coursework with a grade of "C" or better
- completion and passing of a Culminating Experience
- a final GPA of 3.0 or higher [Graduate School Requirement].
For all four online degree plans under the MA in Education offered by the Teacher Education Department, students may select one of two options to meet the Culminating Experience graduation requirement: Thesis or Capstone Project.
Thesis - A thesis manuscript and an oral defense, both satisfactory to the Faculty Thesis Committee in the Teacher Education Department and the UTEP Graduate School.
Capstone Project – An applied research project relevant to the concentration area of study. The capstone project must meet the standards established by the faculty in the Teacher Education Department in order to satisfy degree requirements.
