Graduate Certificate in STEM Education
The Division of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education in the Teacher Education Department within the College of Education, has at its core, the preparation of today and tomorrow's educators for working with modern students in multicultural settings who need to find motivation and engagement in their learning. STEM Education faculty envision contributing to a bi-national region and a global community that supports all students—particularly those who encounter geographical and cultural borders on a daily basis—to engage in rich and rewarding learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education.
The Graduate Certificate in STEM Education is a fully online program designed for teachers, administrators and other education-related program leaders seeking to engage students at all levels in rich and powerful STEM learning experiences. This graduate-level certificate provides professionals with deep knowledge content in STEM disciplines along with practical approaches to impactful STEM education pedagogy in various educational settings.
Admission Requirements
To apply for the Graduate Certificate in STEM Education, individuals must complete the application process through UTEP's Graduate School. Prospective students submit the following:
- Current Resume
- Transcripts from all previous colleges and universities attended
- A statement of purpose describing the applicant's personal and professional goals related to the focus of the gradate certificate program (minimum 500 words)
- Applicants whose degrees are from non-English speaking institutions are required to demonstrate English proficiency. Please consult the Graduate School website for required scores.
These admission factors will be reviewed holistically to assess the potential of the applicant. The successful applicant would typically have an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 of higher, a current resume that shows basic knowledge and/or experience in education, and a well-written statement that demonstrates commitment to education and to the content area of study.
