Minor in Deaf Studies

The purpose of the Deaf Studies Minor is to provide students with foundational knowledge in manual signing systems (i.e. American Sign Language, manually coded English systems, phonetic-based sign systems), aspects of Deaf Culture, and considerations related to providing services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing Individuals.
Upon completion of the minor, students will be able to
- Use and understand basic signs use in ASL and use and understand Signed English systems
of communication with basic proficiency, - Describe aspects of Deaf Culture (i.e. history, beliefs, traditions, literature)
- Identify and define best practices in service provision for Deaf and Hard of Hearing
populations.
