College of Liberal Arts
The College of Liberal Arts offers students many post-graduate options through master’s and doctoral program and graduate certificates. While the History Department awarded its first master’s degree in 1942, the college now offers a variety of programs to suit student needs. Now, the College of Liberal Arts offers 22 master’s programs, including master of arts, master of fine arts, master of music, master of science, master of public administration, and master of defense and security studies degrees. The college offers 4 Ph.D. programs in English Rhetoric and Composition, History, Psychology, and Sociology as well as an online bilingual MFA in Creative Writing, the first of its kind in the country.
The college has more than 600 graduate students who are supported by more than 150 graduate faculty across the fine and performing arts, humanities, and social and behavioral sciences. Many of our faculty have earned national and international reputations and have been honored for excellence in teaching, research, and service.
The graduate education in the College of Liberal Arts is one that exemplifies our commitment to student mentorship, critical thinking, and effective writing. Our graduate students are trained to understand and solve societal problems across cultures.
