College of Health Sciences

The College of Health Sciences at The University of Texas at El Paso provides education rooted in evidence-based practice, and fosters the creation, development and translation of knowledge through research, community engagement, and administrative support for these activities. The College is unique in the provision of interdisciplinary education of outstanding diverse, culturally proficient health care professionals who serve the global community.

In partnership with hundreds of community-based clinical faculty, the College of Health Sciences offers a range of nationally accredited professional education programs in the health, rehabilitation, education and human service fields. The College has five departments (Clinical Laboratory Science, Kinesiology, Public Health Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences, and Social Work), and a collaborative relationship with the University of Houston School of Public Health-El Paso regional campus. Strong collaborative ties also exist with the UTEP School of Nursing, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in El Paso.  The degrees offered through the College's health-profession programs include: the Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science (Medical Laboratory Science), the Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion, the Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, the Bachelor of Social Work, the Master of Public Health, the Master of Science in Kinesiology, the Master of Social Work, the Master of Rehabilitation Counseling, the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology, the Master of Occupational Therapy, the Doctor of Physical Therapy, and the cooperative Doctor of Pharmacy.  In partnership with the UTEP School of Nursing, the College also offers a flagship Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Ph.D. program that provides a unique educational path for clinicians to become the academic faculty and the health researchers of tomorrow. The College's commitment to academic and research excellence not only enhances student learning opportunities across our disciplines, but also contributes to advancing knowledge and clinical practice.  UTEP has been recognized among the top universities in the nation awarding degrees in the health fields to Hispanic students.

The College has two locations: the Health Science and Nursing building on the main UTEP campus (1851 Wiggins Street) and the Campbell building, approximately one mile from the main UTEP campus, at 1101 North Campbell Street. The College is housed within large, modern buildings which include classrooms, laboratories, faculty offices, and lounges for both students and faculty. Top-quality teaching and research facilities strongly support the College's commitment to education, scholarship and community engagement. The Independent Learning Center provides audio-visual programs, programmed units, laboratory computers, and instructional software training and support. The College Student Support Center provides a variety of advising-related services.  The College houses a number of specialized teaching facilities where students develop and practice skills such as the Center for Simulation, the Exercise Science Teaching Laboratory, the Clinical Laboratory Science Teaching Laboratory, the Speech, Hearing and Language Clinic, Occupational Therapy Laboratories, Physical Therapy Laboratories, Rehabilitation Sciences Clinical Teaching Laboratory, and the Human Anatomy Laboratory.  The College of Health Sciences has partnerships with hundreds of health-related organizations throughout the El Paso- Las Cruces-Ciudad Juárez international border community and across the country to provide a wide variety of internship and clinical experiences.
